Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi laid emphasis on development of Co-operatives. According to him, “Co-operation is the gateway to economic freedom”. The first Prime Minister of India, late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru once said, “Ensure me a good Panchayat, a good School and a good Co-operative Society, I will ensure you the Ramrajya.” The establishment of network of Registrar Cooperative Societies (RCS) started in different States of India, soon after Independence. For instance, in most states including Assam, RCS at State Capital, District RCS at District Headquarter and Assistant RCS at Sub-division Headquarter have been established. A good number of Junior & Senior Inspectors, Sub-Registrars are available to look into activities related to Co-operatives. The structured
